ECW on Sci-Fi - July 1, 2008
by Sassy

At Night of Champions, The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry defeated The Big Red Machine Kane and The Big Show to become the new WWE ECW Champion. Tonight’s ECW begins with highlights from the NOC championship match.

WWE’s ECW is broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel from Tulsa, OK.

Ringside announcers: Mike Adamle & Tazz

Ring announcer: Tony Chimel

The new ECW Champion, The World’s Strongest Man enters the arena and heads to the ring. Henry proclaims himself the savior of ECW. Kane was going to take the ECW title to Raw, but Henry brought the title back where it belonged. Tommy Dreamer and Colin Delaney appear and make their way to the ring. Dreamer tells Henry he wants to be the first person to challenge Henry for the ECW title. Henry tells Dreamer to take his little friend and take a walk. Dreamer points out Tazz and remind Henry what a great wrestler Tazz was in the ECW ring. Henry tells Dreamer he has to earn a title shot and then tells Dreamer he’s got it. Henry meant Delaney. Henry tells Delaney if he can beat Henry, then Dreamer will get a title shot. Delaney accepts the challenge. I really was starting to like Colin Delaney. We go to commercial break.

Six Man Tag Team Match:
Matt Hardy from Cameron, NC weighing 236 lbs.
WWE United States Champion
&
Finlay
&
Hornswoggle
Vs.
Chavo Guerrero from El Paso, TX weighing 215 lbs.
With Bam Neely
&
John Morrison from Los Angeles, CA
&
The Miz
WWE Tag Team Champions
Miz faces Hardy in the ring but manages to work his way under the ropes to make Hardy break a hold. Hardy comes off the ropes and takes Miz down with an arm drag. Miz resorts to fists in order back Hardy up but Hardy comes right back and delivers a bulldog before going for a cover. Miz kicks out. Hardy tags in Finlay but Finlay gets backed into the wrong corner and Miz tags in Morrison. Finlay gets out of the corner, takes down Morrison, and goes for the cover but Morrison kicks out. Morrison tags in Guerrero but again Finlay is in the wrong corner. Guerrero tosses Finlay out of the ring and goes for the baseball slide but Finlay gets out of the way. Morrison & Miz come around the ring and get taken out with a flying dive by Hornswoggle off of the ring apron and we go to commercial break. Back to the action, Hardy is now in the ring with Guerrero. Guerrero backs Hardy into the wrong corner and tags in Miz. Miz goes for the cover but doesn’t get a one count before Hardy gets a shoulder off the mat. Miz tags in Morrison. Morrison goes for the pin but only gets a one count. I just noticed that Morrison & Miz could use a little fashion advice. Hardy delivers a jawbreaker but Miz is back to his feet first. Hardy goes for a roll up and gets a one count. Miz delivers a clothesline, goes for the cover and gets a two count. Miz tags in Morrison. Hardy delivers the side effect and both men are down on the mat. Miz tags in Guerrero as Hardy tags in Finlay. Finlay takes down Guerrero and then knocks Miz off the ring apron but Morrison gets out of the way. Finlay goes for the cover but Morrison breaks it up. Hardy enters the ring and delivers a twist of fate to Morrison. Hornswoggle delivers the tadpole splash and then distracts the referee so that Finlay can nail Neely who is on the ring apron with his favorite weapon. Finlay delivers the Celtic cross, goes for the cover and gets the three count and the win. Time: 9 minutes.
Winners: Finlay with a Celtic cross & Matt Hardy & Hornswoggle

This was a nice opening match for ECW fans. Hornswoggle didn’t get to spend much time in the ring but Hardy and Finlay certainly worked well together. Guerrero always brings heat from the live audience but Morrison and Miz spent more time in the ring. We go to commercial break.

Tommy Dreamer is backstage with Delaney. Dreamer is upset that Delaney accepted the challenge by Henry.

ECW General manager is backstage with his assistance Tiffany and he is shaking hands with someone. Armando Estrada enters and tells Long that he is tired of playing games. Long tells Estrada his contract is under review and that Atlas Ortiz has been signed to ECW. Long says that he will go one on one with Ortiz next. We go to commercial break.

Armando Estrada from Havana, Cuba weighing 238 lbs.
Vs.
Atlas Ortiz from Arizona weighing 246 lbs.

Oh, Ortiz actually walks into the match working as a wrestler. Ortiz misses a shoulder block when Estrada gets out of the way and meets the ring post shoulder first. Estrada delivers a DDT and goes for the cover but Ortiz kicks out. Estrada goes for a cover and again Ortiz kicks out. Time: The live audience has begun a “Let’s go Atlas” chant. Ortiz delivers a high drop kick, goes for the cover and gets a two count. Ortiz goes for a backslide and gets the win. Time: 6 minutes.
Winner: Atlas Ortiz with a backslide

Ortiz did a great job for his first match. He isn’t flashy, knows his wrestling moves and has the same hairdresser as Carlito. We go to commercial break.

Non-title Match
The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry weighing 392 lbs.
WWE ECW Champion
Vs.
Colin Delaney from NY weighing 172 lbs.
With Tommy Dreamer

If Delaney beats Henry, Tommy Dreamer will get an ECW title shot. Henry is all smiles but Delaney is fast. Of course, you can’t win the match by outrunning your opponent. Delaney manages to get in a few shots before Henry tosses Delaney across the ring. Tazz & Adamle are actually timing this match in seconds. Henry drops an elbow but Delaney rolls out of the way and Henry meets the mat. Delaney delivers a drop kick but as he comes off of the ropes, Henry catches him with a clothesline. Henry picks up Delaney and tosses him into the air and down to the mat. Henry slams Delaney to the mat and goes for the cover getting the three count. Time: 3 minutes.
Winner: The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry

Delaney is a scrappy kind of guy but he was most definitely outsized in this match. It was a nice try by Delaney. Dreamer is going to have to find another way to get a title shot.
